In 1944, Raphael Lemkin defined the term "genocide" as a "coordinated plan of numerous actions aimed at obliterating the essential living foundations pf a group of people with the aim of destroying that group". Lemkin, father of the UN (anti-) Genocide Convention in 1948, explicitly referred to the Soviet policy against Ukraine in his work on genocide - is there a continuity in the current Russian war of aggression?

Dr Yurii Kaparulin is Director of Raphael Lemkin Center for Genocide Studies, Associate Professor in Department of National, International Law and Law Enforcement of Faculty of Business and Law of Kherson State University.
