„Promoting the understanding and knowledge of Jewish history and culture"

The Board of Trustees of the IGdJ has appointed Dr Björn Siegel as Deputy Director of the IGdJ with effect from 1 January 2025. He succeeds PD Dr Andreas Brämer, who became Rector of the University of Jewish Studies in Heidelberg in October 2024.

Björn Siegel has a strong track record of researching and publishing in the fields of biography, migration and philanthropy studies, as well as the study of the long-term consequences of Nazi anti-Jewish policies. He studied at LMU Munich and Tel Aviv University and has held positions at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), the University of Sussex (UK) and the University of Graz (Austria).

In addition to strengthening scholarship at the IGdJ as a Research Associate, he is committed to promoting innovative projects that make scientific knowledge accessible to the general public. He promotes projects that communicate research and have a broad impact, such as the podcast Jüdische Geschichte Kompakt, which was initiated in cooperation with the Moses Mendelssohn Centre for European-Jewish History in Potsdam. In times of continuing challenges, Björn Siegel is committed to the strengthening of research, teaching and the transfer of knowledge in order to broaden the understanding of Jewish history and culture.
