Successful completion of the exhibition project “Between Hamburg and Jerusalem”
The online exhibition “Between Hamburg and Jerusalem. Archival Excursions” curated by Dr. Anna Menny and Dr. Sebastian Schirrmeister and technically implemented by Helena Geibel M. A., was successfully realized in recent months as a collaborative project with the research project “A Fresh Look. Visualising Digitised German-Jewish Archives” in the Cluster of Excellence “Understanding Written Artefacts” at the Universität Hamburg. Using selected documents from various estates and collections, the exhibition highlights transnational networks and migration movements between Hamburg and Jerusalem from the 19th to the 21st century. Most of the sources on display come from the digitization project of 24 German-Jewish estates and collections comprising approximately 750,000 individual pages, which was carried out between 2021 and 2022 by the National Library of Israel in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures at the Universität Hamburg. Look forward to the launch of the online exhibition on the Key Documents website in January 2026!
