Reports on panels with IGdJ-participation have been published
The HSozKult platform offers the opportunity to review lectures and discussions from the 55th Historikertag which took place at the University of Bonn in September 2025. Together with Dr. Dina Gusejnova (London) and Dr. Sebastian Gehrig (Sheffield), Dr. Kim Wünschmann organized the section ‘Democracy between Law and Injustice: Dynamics of Legal Development in World War II and the Cold War’, which was moderated by Professor Matthew Stibbe (Sheffield Hallam).
A detailed report by Dr. Mathis J. Gronau (Bochum) has now been published and emphasizes that ‘the question of justice and injustice in constitutional states … must be renegotiated again and again, both in times of war and in times of peace. The boundaries between right and wrong can quickly become blurred and affect those who are perceived by the state as undesirable or dangerous. They are negotiated between a wide variety of groups, both in theory and in practical application. This overarching dynamic showed that such questions and debates about the rule of law and the use of power are not only historically relevant but, as became apparent during the presentations and afterwards, continue in debates that still occupy democracies today.’
In her cross-sectional report ’20th Century’, Dr. Wiebke Wiede (Trier) writes about the section ‘Dynamics of Power and Powerlessness in the Holocaust’, in which Kim Wünschmann moderated the talks by Prof. Dr. Andrea Löw (Munich), Dr. Felix Matheis (Hamburg), and Dr. Markus Roth (Frankfurt am Main).
