#DigitalJewishHistory, National Socialism and the Shoah in Terms of History and Impact

Dr. Björn Siegel, Dr. Anna Menny mit Lisa Bortels

The project “Visualizing the Past - Creating the Future”, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, aims to make visible the visual heritage of German-Jewish families who had to flee their old “home city of Hamburg” due to Nazi persecution and expulsion policies.

The focus is not only on the visualization of Jewish life in the city before 1933, but also on the documentation of exclusion and flight during the Nazi era as well as the visualization of exile experiences and new beginnings in various countries. The image sources collected as part of the project will be made available to the interested public and researchers in a catalog publication and via the IGdJ picture archive.
